Consultations

What are doctors’ consultations?

Doctors’ consultations take place at a private practice, an outpatient clinic or a hospital, providing health professionals with the opportunity to diagnose and treat various illnesses. Most of these consultations involve conducting diagnostic tests such as an MRI, x-ray and CT scan to further investigate the cause of conditions.

Why do you need a medical consultation?

A medical consultation is required in the event of a mental illness or condition. Beforehand, Dr Ledwaba will discuss your symptoms and review your medical history to understand your condition better. Family history is important because this informs the doctor of chronic illness in the family. The information you choose to disclose will always remain confidential.

Basic checks involve reading your blood pressure, height, weight, glucose levels and cholesterol levels and inspecting your ears, eyes and throat. Should your doctor diagnose a mental illness, she will conduct further tests to determine whether any underlying cause may be the reason for the condition or symptoms affecting you.

Finally, with a treatment program in place, Dr Ledwaba can relieve your symptoms and prevent further progression of the condition. Seeking help for a substance-abuse disorder is particularly important when you develop an addiction to alcohol, tobacco, opioids, cocaine and marijuana.

As part of the treatment program, your doctor will determine how long you have been engaging in substance abuse, the types of drugs you have been using when you started taking drugs and the traumatic event that led you down this path. Then, through detox therapy, counselling and health check-ups, you prevent an addiction to a toxic substance from taking control over your life. Dr Ledwaba can prevent a relapse and secondary psychiatric illnesses such as bipolar disorder, anxiety, and depression with the right treatment.

Apart from diagnosing and treating numerous health conditions, Dr Ledwaba performs day procedures at her practice. She specialises in treating conditions and mental health issues that affect people of all ages, including families.
